Mickey Mantle AABC 15U World Series

Thought I'd give some updates as to how the South Coast Warriors (15U travel ball team out of Lake Forest, Ca) are doing.

The tournament takes place in Owasso, Oklahoma (outskirts of Tulsa) and features 14 of the top 15U travel teams from around the country.

The Warriors won the Orange County section in Southern California which qualified them. They'll start play this evening against a team from Tucson, Arizona.

The weather is not just hot there but "Africa hot"..... Temps touched 101 today with a humidity index of 90..... perfect baseball weather! Of course I'd say that no matter what the temperatures were..

The exciting news so far was Warrior Nick Villar winning the home run contest last night. With some great pitching from fellow Warrior Jayson Yano, Nick hit 4 balls out of Stigall Field in 10 attempts. Knowing Nick, they all went to left field, which is 320 feet down the line (before expanding out to 360 in center). You don't need to be Bryce Harper to hit it out, but it's still further down the line than Fenway Park. Great Job Nick!

Should the Warriors win tonight, they'll come back tomorrow and face the home team Owasso. For those of you that are not familar with Owasso and Owasso High School, they are a national power that has won the Oklahoma Division 6 State Tournament 8 times since 1998 (including the last 3 years in a row). They ended this past season as the number 3 ranked high school team in the country (according to USA Today) so they consistently field top notch programs. Should be a great game.

As updates come in, I'll post them.

Go Warriors!

Bill
