How Does This Happen?

I was looking at the Baseball America High School All American Team and this stood out:

Ethan Bennett, 1st team catcher. Senior, heck of a year with a .407 average and 27 home runs on a great team, yet he goes undrafted. WTF??

Is he going on a 2 year Mormon Mission, enlisting in the Army or what?

I see another 1st teamer, Ryan Wilson out of Owasso was also undrafted....

I'm not saying they should have gone in the top 5 rounds or anything, but doesn't that seem a little weird that Baseball America has them as 1st teamers, yet they can't be 1 of 1,500 kids picked?

Here's a complete list of the team:

I've been wondering the same thing. Ethan Bennett is the catcher for Farragut HS - a team ranked number one in the nation at the beginning of the season and winner of their third consecitive AAA-state title. He was in Sports Illustrated in May for breaking the National Record for homeruns in consecutive games (10 game streak with 16 HRs in those ten games), He broke the Tennessee state record for homeruns in a season with 27 (the former record had been standing since the 1980's), He is the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Tennessee, He was chosen as the first team catcher for the USA Today All-USA team along with top draftees like Jameson Taillon, Manny Machado, and Kaleb Cowart. He signed with UT after his junior year, and his coaches sing praises about his work ethic, team spirit, and overall character. He is a big guy (6'1", 215lbs) and smart (3.8 GPA).... so yes, I would love to know the story behind this as well.
